Brown-O'Shea red card mix-up steals show in Man UTD 2-0 Sunderland...
It was a foul on Radamel Falcao that started a big mess up by the
referee Roger East in the Manchester United vs Sunderland game. When the
red card should have gone to John O’Shea, it was his teammate Wes Brown
who was sent off.
Falcao was about to make a run on his own for goal and both
Sunderland players were close by. While Brown made an attempt to get the
ball clear of the Colombian striker, it was O’Shea who clearly brought
down the Red
Devil.O’Shea was even trying to convince the ref that the one that should
be sent out was him and not Brown. The 75,000 people watching the game
at Old Trafford seemed to be mesmerized by what was going on.
After East took a minute to think about what just happened, nothing
changed and showed Brown the way off the field. He consulted the
decision with his
assistants but none
were able to make him change his mind.
The official statement from Professional Game Match Officials Limited
was published a few moments after the game ended. It explained the
reasoning
behing East’s wrong call but did not address whom the sanction will go to for Sunderland’s next game.
