Meet Top 10 Screen Celebrities That Will Sizzle In 2015...
WITH the Christmas and New Year holidays over now, expectations are that some Nollywood’s top rated celebrities would begin to accept scripts and or hit locations to be part of jobs which the promoters hope will redefine movie production this year. But there are those to look out for. In this two-part report, we randomly pick ten out of a pool of 50 celebrities that were nominated by moviegoers based on an online poll and reports that they all set to go.
Clarion Chukwurah
NOTABLE
actress Clarion Chukwurah had a busy year last year. Soon as producers
saw that she made a big come back in the award winning biopic by Emem
Isong titled ‘Apaye’ in 2014, they raced after her with scripts to
feature in their productions. Except for twice that she had to travel
abroad to spend time with family, the veteran actress and current AMAA
best actress had her plate filled.
Observers say that the method actress is likely to experience an overflow this year.
Omoni Oboli
POPULAR
actress, writer, newspaper columnist, producer and director Omoni Oboli
had a good year. 2014 will count as the year she made her debut film as
a director ‘Being Mrs. Elliot’. The movie, which opened the annual
Nollywood Week Festival in Paris, France, was very well received when it
screened in major cinemas across the country. Omoni got the right icing
on her cake when she got President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his
cabinet to sit through a screening of the film at the Presidential
Villa. Even as she got the movie around, Omoni featured in other movie
productions including Brothers Keeper. She had said that 2015 would be a
busy year for her as she is working on a new film and will be on other
set.
Nse Ikpe Etim
AMAZING
actress Nse Ikpe Etim had a good year in 2014. The multi-award winning
actress who fans picked in 2014 to win the Africa Magic Viewers Choice
Award (AMVCA) for best actress in a drama for her effort in Tope Oshin
Ogun’s ‘Journey to Self’ has been working consistently and sometimes
back to back over the past year and half. And most of these movies
including ‘Heaven’s Hell’, ‘The Green Eyed’, “Beauty of the Mind” and
‘Pretty Liars’ have either been released or are awaiting theatrical
release. The approachable, humble and unpretentious friendly actress
looks good to retaining her unofficial title of one of the most sought
after actresses working in Nollywood today.
Afeez Oyetoro
CELEBRATED
comic artiste and theatre teacher Afeez Oyetoro has a busy year in
2014. The actor who is liberally called Saka; an alias he earned from a
character he played in the rested television soap House Apart was
literarily everywhere-on radio, television, billboards and cinemas. The
actors who has in the last few years acquitted himself as a comic actor
has since emerged as a constant visitor in every home and this year will
not be any different for the star of Dare Fasasi’s ‘Head Gone’ and the
product of the University of Ife and the University of Ibadan where he
obtained a Bachelors of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in Theatre arts
respectively.
‘OC’ Ukeje
THERE
was no stopping the humble and personable Abia born actor Okechukwu
Chukwudi ‘OC’ Ukeje in 2014. If the role required a steady and
believable actor, it was ‘OC’ that they would call. This year will not
be any different for the Marine Science graduate of the University of
Lagos who recently quit bachelorhood. The star of ‘Gone Too Far’ and
‘Heavens Hell’, which leading film distribution company FilmOne just
announced will be out in cinemas this January has confirmed that he has
his hands filled this year.
Monalisa Chinda
MULTIPLE
award-winning actress and producer Monalisa Chinda had a busy 2014. She
spent the year working on her new talk show You & I with Monalisa,
which is set to hit the screens in 2015. The unconventional and exciting
talk-show show which has gulped over N90 million in production cost, is
promoted as ‘Africa’s most ingenious TV talk-show’. It is designed to
address pressing and trending social issues in the most refreshing
perspectives. Although the actress confirmed that she would take on some
acting jobs this year, she disclosed she would spend ample time on the
talk show, which she further described as ’a most cherished gift from
God and one of my greatest contributions to this world’’.
Kiki Omeili
MEDICAL
doctor-turned actress Kiki Omeili had a good year in 2014 The product
of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos grabbed so many
roles in 2014 and according to her, ‘the roles are still coming in’’.
Star of critical acclaimed movies like ‘Behind the Smile’, ‘The Valley
Between’, ‘Lekki Wives’ and lately ‘Antique’, Kiki was nominated for the
TV Actress of the Year category of the Exquisite Lady of the Year
(ELOY) award organized annually by Exquisite Magazine. She earned the
nomination for her role in ‘Lekki Wives’. Observers say that nomination
and many she has received and won is a confirmation of her status as an
actress who has found her space in Nollywood.
Ramsey Nouah
THESE
days, you don’t find popular actor Ramsey Nouah in every picture. But
whenever he steps out in one, he lights it up. After a commendable
performance in Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Figurine’, Ramsey returned late last
year in AY’s box office shattering comedy ’30 Days in Atlanta’.
Observers say Ramsey contributed greatly in giving the movie its acting
credits. He confirmed that he has about five jobs waiting in the wing
this year.
Funke Akindele
STAR
actress Funke Akindele is sure going to have a busy this year. The
actress who said she worked all through December last year and so didn’t
observe the Christmas and New Year break said she ‘murdered the holiday
periods’ because she was working on the timely release of the much
talked about Jenifa Television series. The show is ready and will hit
the screens anytime soon.
Bayray Mcwizu
NOTABLE
actress Bayray Mcwizu had it good last year and this year is not going
to be any different for the Anambra born actress, singer, linguist and
philosophy graduate of the Lagos State University.
Last year,
Bayray did a good job of serving as official host of the nomination
event of the 2014 edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards otherwise
called BON awards, which held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She also
showed stuff on stage playing Sidi in Wole Soyinka’s The Lion and the
Jewel staged as part of the 80th birthday commemorative event for the
Nobel laureate. Also, Bayray (the stylized short form of her given name
Eberechukwu) remained a constant visitor to many homes with her stunning
performance in Tale of Eve, the soap from the stable of Genesis Studio.
Bayray confirmed that she has a loaded 2015.
Mercy Johnson
Mercy
has been on sabbatical in the US for sometimes now. However, she is back
to her first call, Nollywood and she has promised her teeming fans to
expect much more in 2015
