John Terry has had 21 defensive partners in the heart of Chelsea's backline... and here's what happened to them after playing alongside the Stamford Bridge captain...
On
one end of the spectrum, he has partnered World Cup winners. On the
other, he was infrequently joined by Winston Bogarde, who once said: 'I
may be one of the worst buys in the history of the Premiership but I
don't care.' There was also a player sent down for supplying drugs

Alex (at Chelsea between 2004-2012) - played alongside Terry 94 times
The
Brazil international spent eight years at Chelsea from 2004 and played
alongside Terry 94 times. But he never truly established himself in the
team and handed in a transfer request in 2012, ahead of a move to PSG.
He later said: 'I had problems at the time with one person, who was Andre Villas-Boas, but not with the club.'
Currently at AC Milan.

Tal Ben Haim (2007-2008) - played alongside Terry 11 times
Joined on a Bosman in 2007 and lasted just one season, playing alongside Terry only 11 times.
Shortly
before leaving he became tangled in a bitter public argument with Avram
Grant, saying in an interview: 'If I knew Avram Grant was going to be
the coach I would have signed for another club.
'It
was Jose Mourinho who brought me here and no one except he and I know
the conversation we had. While Jose was the coach I played most of the
games and people who know me know that I would not have come here to be a
reserve. I knew nothing good would come for me with Grant as Chelsea
coach.'
Grant responded: 'I don't think Jose promised Ben Haim he will play before John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho or Alex.'
Currently at Charlton.

Winston Bogarde (2000-2004) - played alongside Terry six times
Oh
dear. Won the Champions League with Ajax and La Liga at Barcelona but
flopped spectacularly at Chelsea. Played six games alongside Terry in a
four-year stint and earned an estimated £10m. By the end of his spell,
in 2004, he was commuting from Amsterdam to train with the junior
sides.
Reported
to have said: 'This world is about money, so when you are offered those
millions you take them. I may be one of the worst buys in the history
of the Premiership but I don't care.'
Retired now and had his £3.2m home repossessed in 2011. Recently applied for the Oldham managerial position.

Khalid Boulahrouz (2006-2008) - played alongside Terry 16 times
For a man nicknamed 'The Cannibal' his Chelsea career wasn't nearly so exciting.
Had
one meaningful season at the club, playing 16 times alongside Terry,
but was always intended to serve as cover after joining for £8.5m.
Currently at Feyenoord.

Jeffrey Bruma (2009-2013) - played alongside Terry seven times
Brought
into the Chelsea youth system at 15 with big things expected. But
having failed to make the grade was sold in 2013 to PSV, albeit with a
buy-back option. Played seven times alongside Terry.

One
of the most solid partnerships Terry has had at Stamford Bridge. Joined
in 2012 for a bargain £7m and has played alongside Terry 93 times and
counting.
Terry
said last year: 'People think that you get thrown in and it happens
immediately, it doesn't. You understand each other's games better and
better, day-in, day-out, in training. I've got to say Gaz is just
getting better and better game by game, and he'll be here for many
years.'

Ricardo Carvalho (2004-2010) - played alongside Terry 158 times
A
wonderful partnership that yielded three Premier League titles, three
FA Cups and the League Cup twice. The foundation on which Jose
Mourinho's success was built.
Played 158 times with Terry – arguably his best partnership.

Marcel Desailly (1998-2004) - played alongside Terry 96 times
An
iconic World Cup winner who had a profound effect on Terry. They played

Michael Duberry (1993-1999) - played alongside Terry six times
Played
alongside Terry just six times, but along with Desailly and Frank
Leboeuf was instrumental in his career. Took extra interest in his
progress before leaving in 1999, when Terry had yet to fully establish
himself in the first team.
Terry
said of Duberry: 'He had the time to talk to a 17-year-old who was
trying to learn his trade. I wanted to stay out there after sessions and
improve on what I was told.'
Michael Duberry played alongside Terry just six times between 1993 and 1999 for Chelsea
William Gallas (2001-2006) - played alongside Terry 187 times
Another
dominant figure in many Chelsea sides. Played 187 times with Terry and
straddled the pre and post Roman Abramovich eras. Often used at right
back but his partnership with Terry once included a run of 16 games
without conceding.
Retired last year.

Jes Hogh (1999-2001) - played alongside Terry four times
A
stalwart of the Danish national side with 57 caps to his name, Hogh
arrived at Chelsea as an understudy to Desailly and Lebouef, soon
overtaken in the pecking order by Terry.
Having turned out 17 times for the Blues, injury forced him to retire in 2001.
Jes Hogh played four games alongside Terry before retired from football in 2001
Robert Huth (2002-2006) - played alongside Terry 50 times
A
solid player who has gone on to have an excellent Premier League
career. But found himself in one of the toughest centre-half queues in
football when he arrived at Chelsea in 2002.
Made his debut at 17 and would play 50 games alongside Terry, but never had more than 16 Premier League games in a season.
Currently on loan at Leicester from Stoke.

at Hapoel Tel Aviv aged 17, when half the team refused to travel because
of a security threat.
Left

Premier League but made one appearance aged 17, playing in a UEFA Cup
tie against Hapoel Tel Aviv, when several players did not travel to
Israel because of a security threat
Bernard Lambourde (1997-2001) - played alongside Terry 10 times
A fringe player largely before Terry's time. Spent four years at the club from 1997 and played next to Terry 10 times.
Wound up ending his career in Saudi Arabia in 2003.
Bernard Lambourde keeps his eyes on the ball during a Premier League game in 2000 with Arsenal
Frank Leboeuf (1996-2001) - played alongside Terry 21 times
A World Cup winner turned actor. Played only 21 games next to Terry but was influential in his development.
More
recently he played the role of a French resistance leader in World War
Two. Impresses in his brief dialogue but his role ends rather abruptly.
Frank Leboeuf played for Chelsea between 1996 and 2001 and partnered Terry in defence
David Luiz (2011-2014) - played alongside Terry 80 times
The
Playstation man made Chelsea a fortune when he was sold to PSG last
year and he gave them an even greater headache in the Champions League
this season.
Played 80 games next to Terry and was perhaps more different in style to Terry than any of his other partners.

Michael Mancienne (2006-2011) - played alongside Terry five times
Another
youngster that couldn't quite breakthrough and follow Terry from
academy to first-team regular. He first joined the club in 1995, aged
seven, and stayed until 2011 but managed fewer than 10 first-team games.
He played alongside Terry only five times.
Currently at Nottingham Forest.

Emerson Thome (1999-2000) - played alongside Terry two times
Played
only one season at Chelsea, 1999-2000, but could not dislodge Desailly
and Lebouef. Two games alongside Terry and ended his career in Japan in
2003.
The now retired Emerson Thome made just 21 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea
Kurt Zouma (2014-NOW) - played alongside Terry 15 times and counting
A
promising and versatile talent, having broken into the Chelsea side
this season under Jose Mourinho. Signed from Saint-Etienne last year and
now in the France squad, Zouma is only 20 but has already played 15
times alongside Terry.
