Fresh fears over OJB’s health

Talk about the kind of story no one would want to write, the newsflash no one would like to read but the reality is there are fresh fears over the state of health of popular music producer, OJB Jezreel.
According to sources close to the music producer, not only has his kidney issue resurfaced, he’s also allegedly undergoing treatment for diabetes in a Lagos hospital which has got many scared that his predicament is assuming a complicated dimension.
Worse still, the feelers we are getting from those spoken to, is that OJB does not seem to have the financial capacity to take care of the treatment of his ailments.
Sources revealed that OJB has completed the third stage of the 5-dialysis required to keep him alive and strong at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, where he’s being treated for acute renal failure but was discharged because of his inability to continue paying admission fees.
The dialysis comes up once a week and there are two more weeks for him to round off the session but he will now have to come from his Surulere home for the remaining sessions.
Wondering how OJB’s kidney issue resurfaced again, the NET sought to speak with the producer but all his known phone numbers no longer connect and he’s no longer reachable via BBM (Blackberry Messenger) as well.
His Surulere home has also been deserted as our source further revealed that ‘after the transplant he had in October 2013 when his first wife, Mabel, donated one of her kidneys at the Columbia Asian Hospital in India to give him a second chance to live, OJB never returned to India for medical check-ups.’
In 2013, OJB spent close to three months in India where he was operated upon and the kidney transplant, which turned around his fortunes carried out.
With the industry he had served all his life, making it to the top, not just as a producer but as a music star with a number of hits and collaborations to his name behind him, OJB returned to the country in December 2013.
With donations made by colleagues, friends and associates, OJB bounced back big time in 2014, with the gloom and near hopelessness that surrounded him during the days of seeking help from the public, disappearing completely.
But why will a relapse occur so soon? His involvement in an auto crash in September 2014 along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway has been fingered as a major cause of his present predicament but no medical explanation has been given to let Nigerians know how that can be.
In an interview OJB granted after the 2014 accident, he said: ‘’I was coming from Abeokuta with a friend in his car. I think they didn’t tighten the bolt of the tyre very well. By the time we were around Mowe, the tyre gave way and the car tumbled and the glass was shattered.
‘My friend was seriously injured. I was also injured but not as badly. After the accident, I couldn’t walk very well. I was treated and for a few weeks, I had to walk around with a stick. I dropped the stick three days ago. I’m a lot better now. The things that have been happening, from the surgery to the accident, it is God. Some people would have died if they had gone through all that I have gone through but God has been gracious to me.’
OJB’s case might be far from just kidney issues as you read this, as we also gathered that he’s now diabetic, according to a source.
‘He’s no longer dealing with kidney related disease alone; he’s diabetic. And you know how much of insulin is required to suppress the pains. He never had diabetes but this one is insulin-induced.’

As things stand, with OJB and his friends not offering any information on the true state of his health, his loved ones can only continue to pray for favour for the man responsible for many of the hits that still send you into the playground of nostalgia.
