Check Out 10 Recent Hit Singles That Failed To Recieve an Award...
2014 is a year that saw many hit records being released by Nigerian music stars which paved way for multimillion Naira endorsements here and there. It will be hard to recall any other year that has seen more chart topping singles released than 2014. The year is so huge musically that most of the songs that are trending on this day in 2015 were released last year.
While we admit all songs can’t win awards, we look at some songs that could have as well won awards if they were released some other time. 10 of them!
Johnny by Yemi Alade
Yemi Alade broke bread with her monster hit single Johnny which surfaced on the internet as a leak in 2013 but went viral eary 2014 following the release of a dramatic video for the Selebobo produced song.
Sometimes it is easy to conclude the song is bigger in other African countries than Nigeria as Yemi gets most of her gigs outside the country.
The video for Johnny has since racked up 17million YouTube. She was also snubbed for her earlier effort Ghen Ghen Love but we can’t forget how she was controversially snubbed at the Headies next rated 2014.
Lil Kesh was the man widely credited for bring the biggest dance routine in Africa at the moment Shoki unto our radar. The song has since had 2 remixes with one being bigger than the other.
Shoki could as well as pass for the best street hop but it lost out out after being nominated for Best Pop Single and Song of The Year. Kesh lost to Reekado Banks at Headies for Revealation of The Year.
Banana by Slyde
If he made dough with this song is a topic for another day.
Wizkid released Show You The Money at a time when some of his fans had lost interest in his music so interest level was low but the song grew on people very much getting all the buzz, the song stood out.
The song is still on our playlist though.
Orezi is a hit maker when he wants to but the team behind him appear not to be the right one to shoot him into the stars.
The singer will be satisfied with what he achieved with Shoki which birthed several remixes. He even had our president dancing to his tune.
Woju by Kiss Daniel surfaced on the internet September 2014 before the biggest award of the year took place but it appears it effort wasn’t good enough to get nominated for an award.
The remix of the song featuring Davido and Tiwa Savage didn’t help much.
Skales made millions here and there for Shake Body but not awards here and there.
Well done Skales.
Ginger by L.A.X ft. Wizkid
Almost one year after its release, Wizkid and L.A.X performed Ginger in Dubai last week.
Arguably the biggest song on Phyno’s debut album No Guts No Glory is Alobam.
Although the song was nominated for Best Street-Hop Artiste at the 2014 Headies, he lost out to Olamide.
Sekem by MC Galaxy
MC Galaxy ushered a new dance step that was well received by the pepople of our great country but it faded off following Shoki.
Musically Sekem is everything Skelewu was.
